Product Details
For Upper Primary to High School Students (Year 5โ12)
STEM Robotics Engineering 401 is the advanced programming stage of the MRT Robotics pathway. Unlike earlier stages that use card coding or built-in board modes, 401 introduces computer-based robot programming through dedicated coding environments (IDEs). Students write, edit, and download programs directly to the robot board, testing their code through real robot behaviour.
This is the stage where students transition from following instructions to creating their own programs. 401 is designed for students who are ready for deeper programming logic and is suitable all the way through to senior high school. It is an official robot kit for the UNSW Robotics & Coding Challenge and various international robotics competitions.
Who Is This For?
- Upper primary students (Year 5+) progressing from Robotics 301
- High school students (up to Year 12) learning real programming
- Students preparing for UNSW Robotics & Coding Challenge (official kit)
- Schools and centres running advanced STEM and competition programs
Learning Focus
- Computer-based robot programming using dedicated IDEs
- C-language-based GUI programming (visual block + editable source code)
- Direct C-language code editing for advanced students
- Scratch-based coding via MRT AI Studio (requires Node Board โ sold separately)
- Program download, testing, and debugging through real robot behaviour
- Sensor integration โ IR, touch, CDS, speaker, microphone sensors
- DC motor and servo motor control with programming
- Engineering design and competition-level robot building
- 45+ guided robot projects with step-by-step manuals
Coding Options โ Three Pathways
1. MRT IDE โ Visual Programming Mode
Students build logic by arranging coding blocks and adjusting properties in the MRT IDE. The GUI generates C-language code underneath, allowing students to see and learn from the generated source code. Ideal for beginners transitioning from block-based to text-based programming.
2. MRT IDE โ C-Language Direct Editing
Advanced students can switch to direct C-language editing within the same IDE. This provides a real programming experience with syntax highlighting, compilation, and download to the robot board. Suitable for high school students and competition preparation.
3. MRT AI Studio โ Scratch Coding (Node Board Required)
With the addition of the MRT Node Board (sold separately), students can program using Scratch-based blocks in MRT AI Studio. This option adds wireless BLE connectivity and AI/ML extensions, opening up advanced projects including sensor-based AI experiments.
